Ananda Chowdhury owns a remarkable 1913 Stoewer C-1, the only one in India and among a handful worldwide. Passed down through four generations, this car has been in the family for 112 years and is still actively driven. With its stunning brass fittings, wooden dash, and century-old technology, including a magneto-powered ignition and crank handle start, it fascinates enthusiasts and onlookers. Originally ordered for use on non-existent roads in Midnapore, it remains a symbol of resilience, regularly participating in highway drives and national events, while preserving its original documents and unparalleled heritage.

This 1913 Stoewer is remarkable in 3 respects. First, it is the only Stoewer C-1 in India and one of a handful left in the world, most of which are in museums and not on the road.
Second, that car has remained in the original owner’s family since 1913. Imagine that, this veteran has been in the same family for a 112 years!
The third is that this Stoewer is driven by the fourth generation current owner as often as possible. The grand old lady recently covered around a 100 kms during a Classic Drivers Club highway drive on a Sunday, a truly admirable feat in modern day highway traffic and unpredictable road conditions that are prevalent.
